Enjoy your break and bravos and accolades...

We hope you enjoy your winter break, the extra snow day was a FABULOUS way to start break!

Don't forget to continue to read over break, new reading logs will be sent home the first week back!

Finally, thank you to all who came to the winter concert. The students did a WONDERFUL job and we were very proud!
Thanks also to Rylee's mom and dad and the parents from Mrs. Gonzalez's room (I forgot the name, I'm so sorry!) The help you provided putting away all the chairs was very kind!

Report card input

Parents,
we'd like your input on the report cards,
too big, too small? too much info, not enough. What would YOU like the report card to show you?

I think we'll need a post off....

I wanted to say THANK YOU to the fab four that have read the blog:
Priscilla's mom
E.J.'s mom
Stafford's mom
and
Rylee's mom.

I think that Mrs. Gorbe is DEFINITELY winning:)
Shall we have a post off? How about it, Mrs. Gorbe's parents versus Mrs. Chappa's. Who ever comments most on this post, well you win the honor of being super blog readers:)

Poinsettia Sale

Please remember to send in your order for a Poinsettia plant! This sale funds our visiting author each year, which is a valuable experience for ALL students AND their parents!
If each family can buy at least one plant, we would be well on our way to our goal!
Thanks so much!

Did you find your way to the blog?

We hope you find this blog to be useful!

Please check your child's backpack daily for papers.

Also, please make sure to return the Book-it Reading logs. Every child that returns their form filled out (we are hoping that you read 20 minutes 4-5 nights a week at least!), receives a coupon for a free personal pizza at Pizza Hut.

Beyond the pizza, students who read and are read to excel at a much quicker pace in literacy, both reading and writing.

Have a great week!

Turkeys, what turkeys???

WOW! What a GREAT job the students did with the homework assignment "Disguise a Turkey."
We'll post pictures next week!!

What's happening in the Kindergarten Classroom?

We know that as parents you often wonder exactly what your child is learning in school. Students frequently "forget" what they've done or may just not want to be conversational after a long day at school. Here are some of the concepts being taught at this time:

MATH:
Number recognition, counting orally, sorting, graphing

READING:
Matching uppercase letters to lowercase letters, sight words, predicting words based on context, genre, and retelling.

WRITING:
Drawing a picture for a story (quick sketch), labeling, stretching out words to hear their sounds, writing sentences with familiar words, matching writing to a picture.

HANDWRITING:
Frog Jump Letters: E,F,P,D,B,R,N and numbers 1,2,3.

SOCIAL STUDIES: Holidays (Thanksgiving), mapping, past and present

SCIENCE:
Sorting materials
