1. I had a parent ask if I had more pictures from the field trip..OF COURSE! And from throughout the year! I'll slowly add them to my snapfish account and post the link here so you can view, and I THINK you can order from them. (If not, leave me a note!)
You can always email me susan.gorbe@lansingschools.net

Homework (in case you can't wait!!!)
I wanted to apologize for not sending homework today! I (Mrs. Gorbe) forgot to bring my original to school today and therefore we didn't have it available!
Needless to say, I'll give you a sneak peek if you can't WAIT to do it!
Homework folders WILL go home on MONDAY! They are not due until Wednesday. (We don't have school Tuesday , so you can work on them then, right??)
March Homework: Mrs. Gorbe & Mrs. Chappa
Week 1: March 6th
Practice using positional words with your parents. Have your parents put your library book (or other book) on, below, above, behind, in front of, etc and you describe where the book is using a sentence with a positional word. Then have your parent tell you where to stand using positional words.
Make a list of things in your house that are fluffy, like some types of clouds.
Practice counting to 100 by 1’s, 5’s and 10’s. Count to 30 by 2’s. (count by 3’s if you can do all these already!)

Gung Hay Fat Choy!!!
*gung hi fat chow* for those that can't pronounce the words!
Ask your child (tonight preferrably) what this means, it's for a special event we did today!
The students all participated in eating egg rolls, making a door hanger and making a parade dragon!
We hope to see you Wednesday night at the Chili cookoff!!
Also, Mrs. Gorbe's class is winning the class spirit contest..Thanks to Mrs. Herrmann!!

CHILI COOK OFF!!! Field TRIP!!!
First things first:
NO school Monday or FRIDAY next week (MLK day Monday and records day Friday).
Secondly:
Chili cook off is only a little over a week away! The date is WEDNESDAY January 28th, write it down!
We need a few excellent chefs (well, and courageous!) to whip up some pots of chili to represent the Kindergarten classes!
Please contact your teacher if you can do this time honored task! The chili can be of any variety, hot, mild, chicken, green, whatever you are good at making!
Also, we have a theme for our K gift basket and of course I can't remember if it is movies or books!! Funny huh?
Anyhow, don't forget, we'll need items for the basket too!
Last but certainly not least:
Field trip information WAY in advance!
During the month of May (around 16 weeks away) we go on a field trip to a great place called Northfork Outback. It is a social studies field trip and we have not set a date, nor decided which activities we will do this year. We do however , have an estimated cost and wanted to give you the heads up so that if you need to start setting aside money on a weekly basis, you can.
The trip will cost *around* $11.00. It may be only $10, I'm going to try to get $1 per child trimmed off with the owner of the place. The cost INCLUDES lunch. The field trip experience is in Webberville, so it's a bit of a bus ride.

Parents may attend, however the cost is $6.50 per parent, which also includes lunch. You will most likely have to drive yourself though, as the bus space is limited!

January Homework, Baskets, and more
Hi everyone! We hope you are well rested from the break!
Please make sure to send your child to school with SNOW boots, snowpants, coat, hat , gloves or mittens EVERY DAY. Unless it is below zero or the pavement is too icy, we will go out!
Also,
Does your child have extra clothes in their cubby? If not, send in right away! Even kids that have been accident free for years can have an accident.
Next,
January homework and bookit went home this week. Please be sure to read the packet carefully and don't forget to read to your student NIGHTLY. Reading is one the best ways to improve your child's academic level, plus it creates great memories!
Food Basket sheets are going home today. Please read carefully and fill out if you even THINK you need it. There has been a generous outpour of donations and they want to make sure they get used!
Things we are working on:
Number recognition
Handwriting uppercase letters
Patterns
Making sets for numbers/matching numbers to sets
Letter identification
Initial sounds of words
Sight words
Reading pattern stories
Retelling stories
Winter stories
Mixtures and Sorting
Martin Luther King Jr and the inaguration
